Holman Ranch Vineyards 2011 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Carmel Valley

This delightful Sauvignon Blanc comes from Holman Ranch estate vines grown at an elevation of 1,100 feet in Carmel Valley. It captures the sun and playful sea breezes of the California coast.

The wine is a light gold in the glass and on the palate my first impression was of lemon zest. The body is light and the wine is tasteful with a good balance.

Not all California Sauvignon Blancs are hits with us. Green Dragon is especially enamored of Sauv Blancs from Marlborough. But the Holman Ranch pushed all the right buttons. There are nice bursts of flavor with citrus and green apple, but just the right amount of acidity helps all the flavors play together well.

In 2010 there were only 46 cases made. That's just not enough of this great wine, so production has been increased to 300 cases annually. This is the perfect wine for the approaching warm weather. At $20 this is California styling and a deliciously low price.
