Holman Ranch Estate 2012 Pinot Gris, Carmel Valley

Holman Ranch Vineyard & Winery is more than pretty face – or super scenic, romantic getaway in Carmel Valley. They make some very good wine too.
Green Dragon chilled down this bottle of Holman Ranch 2012 Pinot Gris in a two-foot snow drift. The weather has improved some since then – but this Pinot Gris delivers refreshment as cool and crisp as our seemingly endless winter.
In the glass the wine is a golden straw color. On the nose there is a lively smell of citrus.
While sipping the Pinot Gris, there are bright flavors of dry citrus with crisp acidity. It has a pop of tartness leading to a clean finish.
This is a beautiful food wine and at $16, it is a steal. Green Dragon’s suggested food pairings are chicken and mushrooms in garlic sauce, salmon burgers with dill and mustard, or Orzo salad with shrimp and feta.
If your weather is still chilly, this bottle gives you the promise of spring. If your weather is hot and humid, the Holman Ranch Pinot Gris is like catching a snowflake on your tongue. A great casual sipper!
