Dr. Konstantin Frank 2007 Rkatsiteli

Rkatsiteli is one of the oldest grape varieties known to man. It originates in the Eastern European country of Georgia and seeds of this grape have been found in clay vessels dating back to 3000 BC.
Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Cellars in the Finger Lakes is a prominent producer of this grape, which was once popular in the Soviet Union.

I had picked up a bottle a couple years ago while on a Finger Lakes trip and noticed that the vintage would soon pass its peak, so we chilled and popped the cork (and “chilled” again!).

It’s an offbeat white with an aroma of herbs and flowers. It is dry and crisp and Green Dragon said it is a perfect match for olives.
