The Charles Creek Muy Bonito is a tasty Syrah blend from Napa Valley. It’s a “very beautiful” mixture of 73% Syrah and 18% Grenache with lesser amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Cabernet Franc.
We sampled this at a friend’s house and the tasting that night included some big Cabs and bold Syrahs. The 2006 Muy Bonito, by comparison, was a relaxed, rich easy drinking wine.
The flavor is a bowl of ripe red berries. There is a whiffle of toasted oak over bright cherry and a faint trace of pepper.
This is a people pleasing wine – a Rhone blend with a California twist. It’s Napa goodness from a great vintage with a very reasonable price. This wine retails for $24, but can be found on sale for much less.
