St. Francis 2007 Sonoma County Old Vines Zinfandel

Zinfandel is climbing to the top of our list as a “go to” wine for entertaining. In our crowd there are some friends who are turned off by the tannins of “big reds” yet still crave interesting wines. For them, Zinfandel is just the ticket.

Zin can be a beefy, robust wine, or it can ratchet down the tannins and oak and let the fruit step forward.
This Zin from St. Francis is from a series of small family owned Zinfandel vineyards in Sonoma County. Many of these family owned vineyards contain Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and Mourvedre planted among the Zinfandel vines adding texture and color to what is called a “field blend”. The vines for this vino must be at least 50 years old and many are more than 100 years old.

Our tasting team enjoyed the deep aroma of black cherries and the flavors of toasted spice and red berries. This is an “old world” style wine that is aged in oak for 14 months.

This is a solid wine that can complement your holiday meals in fine fashion.

Full Disclosure: We received this wine as a sample.
